So, in the great state of Nebraska, we have an awesome home improvement store called Menards. I like this store and find it vastly superior to Home Depot and marginally better than Lowes. The thing I really like about Menards is periodically (approx. 1 time a month) they have their 11% off sale, on everything!
Recently, I went to Menards during said sale where unfaced insulation rolls were already on sale with the plan of purchasing some and adding additional insulation to my attic. Upon arrival at the building supplies counter the clerk informed me that they had bulk pricing on said item if I purchased at least 30 bails. So to recap, I went to buy insulation that was on sale, I planned on doubling up with the 11% off in addition to the sale price, I then ordered the 30 bails so I could achieve the triple threat of sale price, bulk pricing, and 11% off all the above. I spent more nominally than I was planning that trip but how could I pass all that up? Fortunately, 30 bails was the perfect amount to completely cover my attic. *note: I already had blown-in insulation in my attic, to go over that one should use unfaced rolls of insulation so as to not trap moisture between the layers of insulation*
I still haven’t received my next electric bill, nor would one bill necessarily be that instructive as I haven’t lived in the house that long but I would guess that my furnace runs about 1/3 less than before. *Side bar: quit being a weeny and setting your house at a “chilly” 68* in the winter, go for the gusto; my house is set at 53* I wear a hoodie and a beenie (I’m bald). It’s fine!
In some state you might get a tax credit for this installation
Some basics on the process. You want your unfaced insulation to be perpendicular to your ceiling joists.
