Create Additional Storage in Your Attic

Stop paying to store shit you don’t need. This is not advice given so you can store crap you don’t need or want. This is advice to store items that are seasonal or something worthy of saving (liberally interpreted).

Save money and don’t rent a storage unit. Save money and don’t buy a gaudy house you don’t need and that sucks up outrageous amounts of energy and thus money.

Traveling back to my favorite home improvement store Menards, I bought a set of pre-fabricated attic stairs. All that is necessary is to plan where you want the stairs to land, cut out the appropriate sized hole in the ceiling sheet rock and properly secure the stairs to the rafters. This is a project that goes way better if you have a second set of hands, get a buddy to help out. You’ll also want to move any insulation in your way before installation and haul sheets of plywood up to the attic once the hole is cut but before you install the stairs. Sorry I didn’t take pictures of the installation, the idea didn’t occur to me until after completion.

Quite a bit of new storage space created out of existing/unused space in your home. Not bad, you now owe me $150/month now that you aren’t paying for a storage unit right? Right?!?!
