News Flash: Clotheslines are awesome!!!
So one of my favorite things about transitioning from living in an apartment to moving into my first house is the ability to do pretty much anything I damn well please. The last apartment complex I lived in would not allow clotheslines, this is probably to prevent eye sores but mostly to funnel people into feeding the quarter eating dryer machine so they can profit more.
One of the first “improvements” I made to my house was to hang a clothesline. Cost- about $3 in rope and clothespins. Savings probably about that much on my first load of laundry, now I’m profiting, or at least that’s how I choose to look at it. Full disclosure: I do have a dryer, I just love watching it sit there.
The clothesline has basically eliminated my use of a huge electricity consuming machine, the dryer. Now, it’s awesome saving money on my electric bill every month, but there is another benefit as well. My clothes last longer because they are not being heated and beat up in the dryer. I’ve fessed up to this before, but I could give a rip about fashion. I still wear quite a bit of my clothes from high school. Now my clothes will last even longer thanks to my clothesline. ***Bonus points: using less energy also has the side benefit of less emissions into the environment*** Now I get to consider myself a do-gooder as well, I’m really not though. I do this because it saves me money, not because it helps the environment. Simple saving tip = a shorter article. Sorry not sorry 🙂
